There are two vaccinations required of you. Mumps and Rubella vaccine, which is given in most of Africa as MMR and Nisseria meningitides vaccine, the meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY). You can read more about them by clicking on the vaccine types respectively.

You will have to pay to receive this jabs in most if not all African countries but if you missed this for one reason or the other, you can still get the vaccines in your new country. For example in the UK, your NHS coverage allows you to get it at no additional cost.

There are some basic medications I will advise you to bring along with you because they go by a different name outside Africa. They are:

  • Anti-allergies/anti histamines for flu and common cold
  • Anti analgesics like paracetamol or Panadol
  • Anti -analgesic balms
  • And any other medication you feel will be important to you.
